Nondalton and Kokhanok April 22-25, 2010

So my second mission trip went amazingly well. First, we went to Nondalton for half a day and a night. It's right on the shore of 6 mile lake which is right next to Lake Illiamna. It was probably the most open village acceptance wise. The kids were really friendly and fun, although there were only about 30 in the entire school. Terrance, he was really shy but an amazing artist, was the only senior. I got to help with the 1-2 graders and that's when I met Laci. She was the only blonde girl there, and she was completely native (I think). Anyway, so I helped her make a sock puppet and she read a few stories to me. She didn't really talk much, but then, none of them really did (with the exception of Thelma). On Friday morning she gave me a school picture of herself. It was so heartbreaking when we had to leave.
Kokhanok was the "best" village we went to. I say "best" because it felt like it was the most receiving of mimes and testimonies. Does that make sense? Anywho, it was really fun because on Friday night the school government had a lock in at the school and so we got to play crab soccer and sardines with them. After sardines though, we all got in a circle on the gym floor and told ghost stories. All of our ghost stories were hokey camp fire type ghost stories, but all of theirs were absolutely true. Someone told about their great uncle disappearing and there were many many stories about "the Hairy Man" (basically Sasquach). Never before had we been directly informed of demonic manifestations. We went to bed praying the Psalms that night. The next day was our fun day. We panted faces and had balloons. It was great fun. It was also amazing to see how well our mimes were received. We did Porcelain Heart (which was a mime that we made up to the song by Barlow Girl), Papercut (a dance mimish thing that Victoria Walsh made up. It went perfectly with our demon talk the night before and went really well), and the Champion (which was about how Christ totally demolishes satan and how the demons don't have a chance). It was awesome.
So yeah, pretty much an amazing trip with lots of new friends made! I can't wait to go again.
